Welcome to Majorca
Majorca or Mallorca, whatever way you prefer to spell it, or whatever way you wish to pronounce it, is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and lies in the Mediterranean off the south east coast of Spain with 554 km of coastline.
The landscape is very varied, due too its geological formation. The first thing that attracts your attention is the Tramuntana Mountain range, formed by a line of mountains running parallel to the north west coast, the highest being Puig Major. The mountains give way to a coastline of tiny whitewashed villages, with sand, pebble and rock beaches. The mountains are the source of the islands fresh water which flows down to the islands growing regions where orange, and lemon trees grow.
Flying to Mallorca is from most UK airports to the Islands airport on the outskirts of Palma, the capital. Since the onset of mass tourism to Spain in the early 60's, Mallorca has been the most popular destination for all nationalities, offering a wide range of attractions to suit all tastes.
Mallorca has 80 beautiful beaches around the Island, most with fine golden sand, and excellent beach facilities. Mallorca's Palma Nova and Magaluf's are two of the oldest resorts and have possible two of the best beaches, especially in the southern part of the Island.
Mallorca enjoys mild winters and hot summers and in July and August enjoy 11-12 hours sunshine each day, and boasts around 320 days of sunshine per year. Mallorca has always been the centre of nautical activity, largely due too its location in the beautiful Mediterranean plus the proximity to Spain, France, and the other islands in the Balearic chain. This tradition hasn't fallen off in time, and nowadays the island sports a lively yachting industry with many well - equipped harbors and marina's around the coast.
The coastal waters around Mallorca are renowned for being clear and clean, so conditions for diving and snorkeling are ideal, as is fishing due too the abundance of fish. Other water associated sports; sea-kayaking, high-speed water bikes, paragliding, and water-skiing. Other sports available; cycling, hiking, golf, horse riding, rock climbing, canoeing, hang-gliding, hot-air ballooning, pot hole caving, bird-watching, or mountain biking through Mallorca's wild mountain terrain.
To the north of the island away from the package holiday areas, you will find the unspoilt beaches of the bay of Pollenca only 30 minuets from Palma, in the district of Alcudia. It is one of the islands most attractive locations for nature lovers, with Puerto Pollenca open to the sea with wide promenades and pavement cafes with a great atmosphere. There is a modern marina and nautical club, and is a popular haven for the boating fraternity.
UK house builders Taylor Woodrow identified the area a few years ago as an up market area that would suit some of its discerning UK investors, and are developing two small select residential developments; Pollentia Mar and Gotmar Residential, both set back only 500m from the famous Voramar beach.
Es Port Verd is a beautiful picturesque spot on Mallorca's east coast approximately 70km from Palma in the bay of Cala Millor. It is a quite location with wide sandy beaches set among rocky coves and pine forests. It is a peaceful and very relaxing and completely different from the well-known tourist areas, and in the surrounding area there are many quality restaurants, a riding club, plus nautical club. In this area there are 4 excellent golf courses, and it is here that Taylor Woodrow have released Es Port Verde, consisting of 33 luxury apartments just set back from the beach.
Porto Cristo is on the eastern coast and an hour from the capital Palma. It is an exceptional area surrounded by caves such as the caves of Drac, with many coves with deep turquoise waters and Porto Cristo is well-known for its famous exclusive yacht club.
Porto Cristo is still a typical Spanish fishing village, located in the region of Manacor which has a long tradition of the manufacture of quality furniture, and is also the centre of Mallorca's famous Pearl industry.
Cala Magrana ll is a luxury residential development located in a natural setting with stunning views consisting of spacious apartments and town houses by Taylor Woodrow at Porto Cristo.
Cala Dor is the smart resort in the southern end of the eastern coast only 65km from Palma, which has grown from a small Mallorcan fishing village to a modern resort with 5km of fine sandy beaches and coves. The growth of this resort has been controlled and the town still has the feeling of a small village, with an array of quality shops and restaurants. Cala Dor has a magnificent modern marina with an excellent selection of pavement cafes, boutiques and restaurants, all with sea views.
Taylor Woodrow has designed and building El Puerto 2 residential, a purely Mediterranean style complex of spacious luxury apartments overlooking the marina with roof top terraces and panoramic views.
Golf is an important part of Mallorcan lifestyle, so only 20 minuets from Palma is the Andrax Golf course (Camp de Mar) and only a few kilometers from the town of Andrax, with its famous large port and extensive range of leisure activities. Two more prestigious Taylor Woodrow exclusive golfing developments; La Colina del Golf and Los Altos del Golf are both inside the Golf Andrax, just 200m from the Camp de Mar beach.
The prestigious Andrax Golf course (Camp de Mar) has famous members such as Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas, and Boris Becker, Tom Cruise, and Michael Schumacher who all own property in the area. This development is Mallorca's newest golf course and only opened in 2000 following a design credited to the Gleneagles Golf Development and Rodney Barr.
Historical sites and monuments in Mallorca are too numerous to mention, but the stunning Castell de Bellver and the impressive royal residence Palau de l'Almudaina both in Palma must be visited.
