Welcome to the Costa Del Sol!

The province of Malaga known as the Costa del Sol is one of 8 provinces that make up Andalusia in Southern Spain. The province of Malaga, sited between Granada and Cadiz with its capital being Malaga city and the heart of the Costa del Sol.

Malaga airport 30 minuets west of the city has seen an increases with the arrival of all the Low Cost carriers from most UK airports and has become a popular destination for hundreds of thousands of British holidaymakers every year.

The main resort in this area is of course Marbella which is predominantly large hotels, high rise apartments and many villa and apartment complexes. Exploring the back streets of Old Marbella will reveal stately buildings that date back to the 16th century or beyond, with small traditional shops, cafes and galleries - a far cry from the modern Marbella that most people only know and see.

Throughout the old town of Marbella, there are many small plazas lined with local bars and orange trees that add to the traditional feel, and are an ideal place to take a break and soak up the atmosphere. The escape the hustle and bustle the Sierra Bermeja Mountains rise up behind the resort and area great place to explore if you have a 4 x 4! There are excellent viewpoints that provide opportunities to see the three mile coastal spread that is Marbella.

To keep the sun worshippers happy, they have a choice of 12 beaches on this part of the Costa del Sol, plus many Tennis clubs, horse riding centers, bike hire, and all water sports including paragliding. Within this region the area has its own micro-climate resulting in an average year round temperature of 20c, giving around 320 days of sunshine per year. July and August usually exceed 35c plus, remember Africa is not far!

At the western end of Marbella you can find the Ferraris of Puerto Banus, Marbella's own playground for the rich and famous, with its modern marina packed with large multi-million pound yachts, while back in the town centre you can find world class shopping.

Whilst there numerous other tourist resorts on this coastline most north of Malaga, including Torremolinos, which since the 1950's has been converted from a quaint fishing village to now a concrete jungle, but with some fine beaches. Nerja is the most easterly resort of the Costa del Sol, and it has again gone from village to thriving bustling resort with many new tourist developments.

Fuengirola is now the third major high-rise resort heading from Malaga, and this resort is especially popular with British tourists.

The most westerly resort of the Costa del Sol is Estepona, which has succeeded in maintaining its pueblo charm and character, despite the onslaught of tourism, and an ideal choice for families and discerning couples looking for a quieter holiday. Estepona has a small population of only 37,000 and its 'old town' still has numerous street cafes and tapas bars serve traditional Spanish delicacies. Through the cobbled streets that are more suited to horses than cars, you'll find some unusual shops and bodegas, all friendly and very cheap!

Estepona has a modern sea front promenade in front of the most popular beach, La Rada, which is 2.6km long with several beach bars serving fresh sardines and paella, plus a modern marina. There are also 3 other beautiful beaches plus Costa Natura, which open to the public but officially classified 'naturist'. All the beaches are safe for families with young children to bath and also all Blue Flag.

From the El Padron Beach, you can go out by boat to see the Dolphins, which whatever the weather are always there to entertain!

There are over 70 more golf courses on the Costa del Sol, which is known as "Costa del Golf" and some of the best quality golf courses in Europe.

Inland there are many white-washed villages on Costa del Sol, that are impressive historical monuments in themselves, and their residents still live according to age old traditions, inherited from their Iberian, Roman and Moorish forefathers.

Many of the villages near the coast have become fashionable resorts, whilst still retaining there ancient charm.

There are some wonderful places to see; Granada, Seville, Cordoba, or Ronda, plus a quick shopping trip to the rock...Gibraltar!
