Costa Azahar


Welcome to the Costa Azahar!

The Costa Azahar is more commonly known as the "Orange Blossom Coast", with this classical area of Spain having around 120km of un-spoilt coastline stretching from the vibrant city of Valencia, to the tranquil Ebro Delta, on Spain's eastern coast.

True to its name the Costa Azahar has millions of Orange groves that carpet the coastline, as well as lemons, olives, almonds, cherries, and most other citrus fruits.

Costa Azahar Transport

Approximately 65km north of Valencia is Castellon which is the capital of the province, and a population of around 200,000 and lie's 414km east of Madrid, and 214km south of Barcelona. The Mediterranean motorway, A7 connects with the European motorway network with the N340 running parallel to the entire Castellon coastline.

The Costa Azahar has International airports in Barcelona, and Valencia, with the local airport of Rues/Tarragona, and possibly the most important to serve the area...is the new airport at Villanova opening summer 2008.

The airport will be less than thirty minuets to Exit 44 and Alcossebre, so with four airports all having direct flights from the UK with the Low Cost carriers, superb rail and road links, makes the Costa Azahar, possibly the most accessible of all the Costa's.

Costa Azahar's Weather

The Costa Azahar has an average of 310 days of sunshine a year, brilliant blue skies, and a mild winter climate, giving an annual average of between 18c - 20c. Summer months usually are around 25c - 29c. Recognised by the Worlds Health Organization as one of the healthiest regions to live, having "near to perfect climatic conditions". The Costa Azahar offers the perfect environment for the most relaxing of lifestyles, with al fresco eating even in December!

Beaches on the Costa Azahar

The Costa Azahar has been blessed with miles of long fine sandy beaches as well as small sheltered coves, and its gentle shelving beaches are some of the cleanest in Europe. The Castellon region is one of the most awarded regions every year, and in this area has 24 Blue Flag beaches - 5 in Alcossebre alone! Because of the cleanliness of the beaches, and the crystal clear waters of this region, this is the area the Spanish prefer to spend their holidays.

Fiestas and the Costa Azahar

Spain is the land of Fiestas, and the Costa Azahar is no different! In every Town, Village, or City, there are festivals of some kind which gets all the townsfolk out in the streets partying, with their neighbors and friends. Some of the most famous are the mock battles between 'Moors and Christians' in April, and "The Fallas" festival which lasts a week! This is where large paper Mache figures are burnt during the week and possible the Best firework displays in Spain... not forgetting the partying!

Interior of the Costa Azahar

In the Interior of the Costa Azahar this is the region known as the Maestrazgo, and is a land of true spectacle. An epic mountain terrain that contrasts with the un spoilt coastline of golden beach's, to where the glimpse of soaring Golden Eagles is commonplace, as is the shepherd with his flock, or the ruins of one of many castles.

History of the Costa Azahar

Down the centuries, this land of Iberia has had many invaders. To experience this see the hill top fortress of Morella, or the Castle fortress of Pope Pedro de Luna at Peniscola, made famous by Charlton Heston with the film El Cid.
